Stripe has reportedly finalized a deal to acquire OpenRouter, the AI model router and gateway that lets users pick among 400+ models by task and budget, at a price over $7 billion. OpenRouter positioned itself as “Stripe for AI” with 8 million users and recently raised at a $1.3B valuation. The payments giant would own the routing, billing, and lock-in-prevention layer for inference.
