Anthropic is SpaceX’s biggest customer — bigger than the U.S. government

“SpaceX’s biggest customer isn’t NASA. It’s Claude’s landlord.”

The Story

Bloomberg reports Anthropic is the unnamed “Customer B” that made up about a third of SpaceX’s last-quarter revenue, overtaking the U.S. government as Elon Musk’s largest client — via SpaceX’s AI compute unit, now branded Super Intelligence, not rockets. Anthropic’s IPO paperwork shows it could spend up to $120.5 billion there through 2029, then cancel on 90 days’ notice after early 2027. A safety lab is now the economic engine of a space company.

Why It Matters

Distinct from the already-covered Anthropic S-1 “Claude might wake up” piece. New fact: the customer behind the rocket company is the chatbot company. Money, institutions, identity of the state vs. the model lab.

Evidence

Bloomberg exclusive (Oct 29): SpaceX “Customer B” = Anthropic, ~34.5% of Q3 revenue; Anthropic S-1 compute commitments up to $120.5B through 2029, ~$3.1B/month run-rate; either side can walk after early-2027 windows. Neither company confirmed on the record.
