Amazon’s Atlas AI scored Canadian warehouses on how likely the workers were to unionize
“Your warehouse just got a credit score — for how likely you are to form a union.”
The Story
Amazon ran an AI tool called Atlas across 50+ warehouses that ingested hundreds of data points and produced a “labour risk” score (1–5 plus a 100–900 scale) predicting unionization likelihood and “internal or external labour threats.” Documents surfaced in Unifor vs. Amazon proceedings.
Why It Matters
Institutions, work, money, and identity: an algorithm that treats organizing as a measurable risk to be managed. Concrete artifact (the score) plus old-office lore of labor spies updated for 2026. Darkly funny if played as corporate weather report.
Evidence
The Globe and Mail, internal documents from B.C. Labour Relations Board hearings (Oct 23).
