Claude spent 64 hours designing scorpion-toxin proteins — 17 of them stuck

“Claude stayed up for two and a half days designing proteins that latch onto scorpion venom. Seventeen of them actually stuck.”

The Story

An internal Claude ran a mostly autonomous 64-hour protein-design campaign, generating 318,484 candidates against five scorpion neurotoxins. Labs tested 211 designs; 17 bound (none multi-toxin). The two strongest hit single-digit nanomolar affinity on Mexican Cn2, competing with a known neutralizing antibody. Anthropic explicitly does not claim an antivenom. All data released.

Why It Matters

AI as a 64-hour mad scientist making tiny proteins that grab scorpion venom. Science, builders, and a weirdly beautiful (and slightly creepy) artifact.
