An indie studio canceled its public demo because AI might clone the game first
“They canceled the demo because the audience might vibe-code a clone before they ship.”
The Story
Alliance Arts pulled the Oct 19 public demo of *Drunken Goddess Reflux* — a game about drinking until a demon vomits up her soul — and switched to closed playtests. They said they couldn’t police streams, and they feared AI tools could imitate the look and systems fast enough to beat them to launch. Steam has already seen copycat piles (e.g. needle-in-a-haystack clones) land before originals. Other indies are quietly doing the same.
Why It Matters
Art’s new pre-launch secrecy. The demo used to be marketing; now it’s a training set. Builder utility *and* future-shock: if you show the work, the work can be stolen by something that doesn’t sleep.
