Anthropic’s OSS Scanner: Claude now mails unreviewed bug reports to open-source maintainers
“Your next CVE might arrive from Claude, unedited.”
Why It Matters
The bug hunter is now an AI that doesn’t sleep and doesn’t wait for a human to rubber-stamp. Builder utility + institutions (infra security).
Evidence
Anthropic research post, The Verge (Oct 8). Primary URL: https://www.anthropic.com/research/launching-opt-in-vuln-finding-service-for-open-source. Public summary: Anthropic launched OSS Scanner, a free opt-in service that uses its strongest models (including Mythos) to periodically scan critical open-source projects and email maintainers fully model-generated vulnerability reports—no human triage. Reports include a reproducer, explanation, and candidate patch. Inspired by OSS-Fuzz and Project Glasswing (29k+ candidate vulns found). Maintainers enroll via GitHub PR.
