A Keurig coffee maker flooded a home network with 1TB of data in 10 days

“Your coffee maker just used more data than your entire family.”

Why It Matters

Everyday objects are now noisy, buggy computers that can DDoS the kitchen. Internet culture + weird real-world behavior + builder lore.

Evidence

Dexerto, Tom’s Hardware, original X post by Nomad (Oct 6–8, still circulating). Primary URL: https://www.dexerto.com/entertainment/man-discovers-his-parents-coffee-machine-used-1tb-of-data-in-10-days-3416399/. Public summary: An IT worker checking his parents’ UniFi stats found their Keurig K-Supreme SMART had generated ~1TB of traffic (mostly local, saturating an access point) in 10 days. He suspects a unit-specific network-stack bug; most data never left the house. He unplugged it and bought them a dumb machine. The post went viral with crypto-mining and spy jokes.
