Anthropic’s cheapest model just learned to use a computer

“The cheapest Claude just started using the mouse.”

The Story

Anthropic released Claude Haiku 5.5, its cheapest and fastest small model, priced as low as $0.10/$0.50 per million tokens for typical prompts. It is the first Haiku with effort controls, a 1M context window, and a huge jump on computer-use and knowledge-work benchmarks. Anthropic is positioning it as a high-volume subagent next to Opus and Sonnet.

Why It Matters

The tiny, disposable model is now the one that actually clicks around your desktop. Price wars just made agentic computer use cheap enough to run everywhere.

Evidence

Anthropic launch page, AWS Bedrock post, SiliconANGLE, Artificial Analysis (Oct 7). Haiku 5.5 at ~75% lower average cost; OSWorld computer-use 72.4% vs 15.7% for Haiku 4.5.
