Gemini is testing “the whole Mac,” while Apple is locking the disk

“Apple put a deadbolt on the Mac. Google’s next toggle is “give us the house.”

The Story

A hidden “Additional sandbox options” toggle in Google’s Gemini Mac app would let the agent read/create/modify/delete files anywhere on the machine, talk to Mail, Safari, and Messages, and act without asking every time. Purchases and legal terms would still need a human. Google has not announced a ship date. This lands the same week Apple moved to wall agents off the disk.

Why It Matters

Two operating-system religions. Apple: the agent is a tenant. Google: the agent is the user. Builder utility plus future-shock.

Evidence

TestingCatalog via BleepingComputer, 3 Oct, still circulating 5 Oct. Hidden Gemini Desktop setting, not a public launch.
