Brands are rewriting the pitch for customers who never blink

“The most important shopper in your funnel has no eyes, no brand loyalty, and a JSON schema.”

The Story

Marketers are building a new stack to sell to AI shopping agents that ignore lifestyle ads and want specs, price, and structured data. Adobe says AI-referred U.S. retail traffic is up 393% in 2026; Morgan Stanley puts “agent-influenced spend” at up to 20% of U.S. e-commerce by 2030 (~$385B). Amazon still blocks some agent shoppers; other brands are hiring startups to become visible to bots. The human may never visit the site.

Why It Matters

Culture, money, identity. Advertising spent a century learning human desire; now it has to seduce a clerk that doesn’t want. Distinct from SFL’s Stripe-account episode: that’s agents *paying*; this is brands *courting* the agent as the customer.
