Agents made “email me if I go broke” obsolete

“Your agent doesn’t need memory. It needs a hard $50 wall.”

The Story

Willison argues pay-by-usage APIs need default hard budget caps: after $X, the next billable call fails. Soft caps that email you at midnight are useless once coding agents and personal agents can spin up paid workloads while you sleep. He wants an explicit opt-out checkbox that says you accept uncapped charges. AWS spend limits and Google Cloud Spend Caps exist but aren’t the default everywhere agents can swipe.

Why It Matters

Builder utility with future-shock. The strange part isn’t the bill—it’s that we gave intern-level agents a corporate card and left the kill switch as an email. Money + agents + sleep.
