OpenAI just hired the Patreon co-founder to build creator tools

“OpenAI just bought the operating system of the creator economy.”

The Story

OpenAI hired Patreon co-founder and tech chief Sam Yam (plus two other recently departed Patreon execs) to lead a new Creator Product division. Yam said they’ll “build together with Creators” and share early tools, pointing to OpenAI DevDay on Sept. 29. The move signals OpenAI exploring the subscription/creator-economy playbook Patreon invented.

Why It Matters

The lab that built the models that ate culture is now hiring the people who invented paying creators. Money, art, internet culture, and identity collide in one hire.
