The Story
Hidden iOS 27 and macOS code shows Apple designed Siri so a third-party model can appear as an extension—or fully replace Apple’s server-side Siri model. In a demo, Claude sets Reminders through Siri’s UI; GPT-5.6 Terra receives Apple’s planner prompt and tools, then searches mail and sends Messages while Siri still speaks the answer. iOS 27 is rolling out today; the deep swap is not yet user-facing.
Why It Matters
The phone’s voice is no longer Apple’s mind. It’s a socket. Identity, OS, and “who lives in your pocket” become a settings menu.
