The Story
Void Linux’s contributing policy requires all content (code, comments, PRs) to originate from and be understood by humans, with AI use disclosed. A maintainer used an LLM for comments, didn’t disclose it, then walked away and orphaned a huge list of packages (Alacritty, Kubernetes bits, Docker tools, etc.) rather than continue under the policy.
Why It Matters
Open-source identity crisis in miniature: who counts as a contributor when the comments are generated? Builders vs. the machine, culture, and the sacred object of a git commit.
