A CEO fired developers for AI. They shipped an open-source AI CEO
“You automated the engineers. They open-sourced your job.”
The Story
Open Executive is a working open-source “virtual executive team”: one calm MBA voice hiding eight specialist Claude agents (CFO, GC, CHRO, CSO…). It remembers past decisions, pings follow-ups, and talks like a C-suite. It went feral on HN after being framed as revenge: developers replaced by AI, replacing the person who replaced them.
Why It Matters
Builder mischief with a knife in it. The future of work is not “AI takes your job.” It’s turnabout: if labor is a prompt, management is a prompt too. Legal liability still sits on a human. That’s the joke that isn’t a joke.
Evidence
GitHub repo SenteLabsAI/OpenExecutive; HN front page (~709 points / 474 comments); creators’ Reddit account of friends laid off in an “AI Transformation.” Repo is real; the layoff origin story is the creators’ claim, not independently confirmed.
