The Story
Award-winning writers, directors, and producers are taking $12–$200/hour gigs teaching models how to write scripts, build pitch decks, and schedule shoots — work they would rather be hired to do. One documentary director called it “being handed a shovel and asked to dig the grave of my profession.” Production days in L.A. are down sharply; Netflix said it used AI in 300 of 1,000 titles this year.
Why It Matters
Not “AI is coming for Hollywood.” It’s the stranger middle: the guild generation is annotating its own replacement because rent is due. Art, money, identity, institutions. The grave-shovel line is already the film.
