A humanoid just ran 9.39 and then ate the crash mat

“The robot beat Usain Bolt. Then it needed a stretcher.”

The Story

At the World Humanoid Robot Games in Beijing, Tiangong Ultra ran 100m in 9.39 seconds — faster than Usain Bolt’s 9.58 human record. Honor’s Lightning hit 9.47. Both then slammed into the stopping mat; one was carried off on a stretcher. Last year’s winning time was 21.50 seconds. More than 2,000 robots from 666 teams are competing through Wednesday.

Why It Matters

Sports records used to be a human-only sacred object. Now the Olympics-shaped event is a hardware race, and the punchline is still analog: they can outrun Bolt and still cannot stop. Identity + institutions + a slapstick sacred object. Distinct from the already-covered Unitree IPO.
