A Real Fruit-Fly Brain Is Now Living on Your Mac Desktop

“There’s a fruit fly on your screen that uses the same neurons a real one uses to decide you’re scary.”

The Story

A new macOS app drops a 3D fruit fly onto your desktop whose every walk, groom, sleep, and escape is driven by a live simulation of the actual FlyWire connectome (23k real neurons, real synapses). Your cursor becomes looming threat; windows become terrain; the fly only flees when the real Giant Fiber neurons fire. Claude helped write parts of it.

Why It Matters

We just put a piece of a real animal mind on the desktop and let it live in our windows.
